T2K Symposium 2008 in Kyoto -Going Toward Next-Generation Supercomputer from T2K-

T2K Open Supercomputers, which were installed in three sites on June 2, will start their production operations from October in University of Tsukuba and University of Tokyo, following Kyoto University which has been in this phase since the installation day. The member universities also started their collaborative activities toward peta-scale computing not only pursuing the plan declared in the opening symposium held on June 2, but also shaping the course beyond the plan. For this symposium, we define the peta-scale computing as, more specifically, the computing on the Next-Generation Supercomputer being developed by Riken and funded by MEXT. With this definition, we will present our activity at the starting point toward the Next-Generation Supercomputer, and will have special talks given by invited speakers from goal-side, MEXT and Riken
We believe this symposium should be an invaluable opportunity to exchange ideas about supercomputing in future, for the people not only walking toward the Next-Generation Supercomputer at three T2K sites but also those who are pursuing their own activity toward it and peta-scale computing.
*Talks are given in Japanese, but questions in English, expecting answers also in English, are welcome.
