| 15時00分〜16時00分 「Good Research Practice」 Dr. Yasuyuki Matsushita (Lead Researcher, Visual Computing Group, MSR Asia) What are the good skills and disciplines for research? How to establish yourself as a good researcher? Research is not only about solving problems and publishing papers. Maintaining good website, conducting thorough and objective reviews for papers, gaining good communication and presentation skills, etc., are all part of the package of good scholarship. In this talk, I discuss the good research practice that is useful for students who are interested in research jobs. I also briefly introduce Microsoft Research Asia and recent works related to computer vision, if time allows. 16時00分〜17時00分 「Build Intelligence from the Physical World」 Dr. Xing Xie(Lead Researcher, Search & Mining Group, MSR Asia) Context aware computing sought to deal with linking changes in the environment with computer systems. In other words, computing systems become more intelligent through analyzing and reacting to the physical world surrounding them. The coming era of cloud computing brings new opportunities to this long studied research area. By accumulating and aggregating physical world contextual information from multiple users and multiple devices over a long period, we can obtain collective social intelligence from them. Based on this, more innovative Internet services can be developed to facilitate people’s everyday lives. At Microsoft Research Asia, we are working on various technologies with a view to managing physical world information and building intelligence from them. In this talk, I will present our recent work on this direction, as well as other related works in Microsoft and the industry. |
