講演題目： 「Estimating Communication Cost for Processing Distributed XML Queries」
講演概要：The use of XML views is an approach for integrating several kinds of heterogeneous data on a distributed environment. In this approach, all the heterogeneous data in an environment can be treated as XML data. For supporting the approach, distributed query processing over XML data is one of important issues to be considered. The distributed SQL processing is a well-known problem in relational database community. Estimating communication cost is one of the good approaches for processing efficiently SQL queries over distributed relational data. So it seems natural to apply this approach to the distributed XML query processing. Unfortunately, however, the tree-shaped structure of XML data is quite different from the table-shaped one of relational data. Although this structural difference makes it quite difficult to adopt directly the techniques for SQL queries, we can learn their intuition and idea. We propose a cost estimation method for processing distributed XML Queries by considering the structural characteristics of XML data. Our experiment shows that our method is reasonable for estimating the communication cost.
