Post date:2020/03/11
[Notice of postponement] (March 30, 2020)
The seminar will be postponed due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
Details of the date will be announced on this page.
Academic Center for Computing and Media Studies (ACCMS) holds a seminar once in a month. We inviting active researchers from a variety of areas, and ask them to give talks about their research activity or issues in performing research, hoping to provide an opportunity for fruitful discussion among participants.
On an ACCMS seminar at 28 April 2020, we invite Prof. Ninomiya and Dr. Akiyama at Kyushu University, Prof. Hirata at Wildlife Research Center of Kyoto University, Prof. Nakamura at ACCMS Kyoto University, Dr. Suzuki at Faculty of regional policy, Aichi University. We hope to have a lot of participants.

Program | ◆13:20~13:30 Opening ◆13:30~14:15 Speaker: Toshiharu Ninomiya(Kyushu University) Title: Community-based cohort study: the Hisayama Study Abstract: The Hisayama Study is a population-based prospective cohort study designed to evaluate the risk factors for cardiovascular disease, dementia, and lifestyle-related diseases in a community-based Japanese population. In my talk, I will introduce about the Hisayama Study.(The talk will be given in Japanese.) ◆14:15~15:00 Speaker: Satoshi Hirata(Kyoto University) Title: Social and group-level relationships of feral horses Abstract: We have started to study feral horses by using drones. We firstly identified horse individuals by naming them one by one, then record all of the horses within sight from a drone in the sky. This new endeavor of field research has provided quantitative data to understand the rules governing social relationship of horse individuals within a group and multi-level inter-group relationship of them.(The talk will be given in Japanese.) ◆15:00~15:45 Speaker: Masato Akiyama(Kyushu University) Title: Large-scale human genomic analysis for complex traits Abstract: Recent analysis of human genome has become large-scale due to the development of biobanks constructed in various countries including Japan. Genome-wide association study (GWAS) is an analytic method to identify susceptibility loci for complex traits including diseases. Today, GWAS incorporates the genetic data obtained from more than one million individuals, and evaluates the statistical significance of more than 10 million genetic variants. In this lecture, I am going to introduce the situation of recent human genome analyses and the use of computational resources required for carrying out the analyses.(The talk will be given in Japanese.) ◆15:45~16:05 Break ◆16:05~16:50 Speaker: Shin Suzuki(Aichi University) Title: Spectroscopic imaging of the upper atmosphere Abstract: Airglow imaging is an useful technique for observing dynamics in the upper atmosphere (mesosphere and thermosphere/ionosphere). A better understanding of the upper atmosphere contributes not only to the elucidating of the solar-terrestrial system, but also to our social infrastructure and space utilization promotion. In this presentation, I will show some current projects to make global imaging networks.(The talk will be given in Japanese.) ◆16:50~17:35 Speaker: Yuichi Nakamura(Kyoto University) Title: Cyber Field Work and its Future Abstract: "Cyber Field Work" is a framework for virtual field work as an activity of Academic Center for Computing and Media Studies (ACCMS), which gives virtual experiences of observing and analyzing resources and measurement data of real fields. We collaborated some researchers in Kyoto University and implemented a cyber field work program of half day for Jonan Ryoso high school students from 2017 to 2019. Those classes were well accepted with good impressions, and also gave us valuable chances of further joint research with collaborating researchers.(The talk will be given in Japanese.) ◆17:35~18:30 Discussion ◆18:30~19:00 Closing |
